Lately, Madeline has been taking these really deep breaths when things around her are chaotic. She takes one long breath in and out through her nose and a look of calm washes over her face. It's a really impressive skill, for such a little girl.
Today isn't off to a great start. We've all been up since before 6AM. Hudson tried to hunt birds at the feeder again when I let them out. I scrubbed the kitchen and washed dishes, and it's already a mess again. The family room looks like a bomb went off. Andrew dropped an ice cube down my back, so I threw the sandwich I had just made him into the garbage. Maddie put her hand in the dogs' water bowl for the one millionth time. She also pulled all the books off the shelf, threw her spoon full of oatmeal at me and onto the floor, pointed to an elephant and said "mama" and currently has her finger up her nose.
I'm taking a lesson from my one year old and breathing. In and out. Trying to regroup. Find a little more patience. Find a little more grace. Find a little calm in the chaos.
